Karen Bass Visits Laboratory

Grammy-winning songwriter and producer James Fauntleroy marked a momentous occasion for his passion project, the Creators Laboratory, by hosting a construction kickoff event alongside Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass.

The Mayor joined Fauntleroy, Council President Marqueece Harris-Dawson, and numerous community leaders to officially begin building the transformative entertainment workforce development, entrepreneurial, and content production hub in the heart of South Los Angeles’ Crenshaw Empowerment District. Mayor Bass applauded the initiative, highlighting that the project represents a critical investment in the local community. She underscored that the entertainment industry is central to the city's identity and economy, and the Laboratory ensures that South LA would continue to cultivate accomplished creators and business owners.

Fauntleroy’s vision for the Laboratory centers on democratizing access to the creative industry for his home community. The renovated facility is being designed to feature a state-of-the-art production studio, fully equipped soundstage, podcast recording spaces, and classrooms, all dedicated to training the next generation of content creators, post-production professionals, and media entrepreneurs. The Mayor echoed the widespread sentiment that the proposed center will be a “community jewel,” recognizing its role in creating new jobs and vital opportunities for residents who were previously underrepresented in the creative economy.
